Members of the Straits Area Sportsmen’s Club belong to the U.P. Sportsmen’s Alliance, MUCC Executive Board Director Region 2/Eastern U.P., MUCC Conservation Policy Board Region 2’Easten U.P., Far Eastern U.P. Sportsmen’s Coalition, Eastern U.P. Citizen Advisory Council to DNR, Resource Advisory Council to the U.S. Forest Service, U.P. Cronic Wasting Disease Council, Safari Club International, Ducks Unlimited, and The Ruffed Grouse Society.
Information gathered from these surveys will help when attending one of these meetings. An example would be with Michigan Untied Conservations Clubs members on the Conservation Policy Board; they can submit resolutions to the Board to be passed and then taken to the MUCC Convention, where the members will vote on them. If given, MUCC staff will work with DNR staff to make possible changes in regulations. One example you are familiar with is the Straits Area Sportsmen’s Club submitted a resolution to change the number of fishing rods a fisherman could use from 2 rods to 3 rods.
The 2022 Winter Wolf Survey Results have been released, and we would like to know the thoughts of our followers.
Now that Deer Rifle and Muzzleloader seasons are closed, the Straits Area Sportsmen’s Club is curious how your season went. So please take a moment to complete a quick survey to let us know how your season went.
The DNR reports 10,000 bears in the U.P. and a minimum of 695 wolves (per 2020 survey). So those of you using trail cameras, are you seeing more pictures of Bears or Wolves?

Wolf Encounters in the Upper Peninsula
Over the years, many of you have encountered wolves in the Upper Peninsula. Unfortunately, many of these go unreported to the Michigan DNR. However, with possible litigation in the future, these encounters are essential data to be collected by the DNR for their records to show the number of increases in wolf-human encounters.
